Explore Pigeon Island while you’re in Kusadasi
Pigeon Island, (Guvercin Ada) is an extremely popular place to visit for locals and tourists, alike! With its amazing views of Kusadasi, lovely gardens, and, of course, the remains of a Byzantine castle and small museum, it really should be on everyone’s list of places to see!
This small Island was always a popular bird migration area, hence the name, ‘Pigeon Island’, and the town of Kusadasi, meaning ‘Island of Birds/ Bird Island’ was named for this reason, too.
Historically, Pigeon Island served as an outpost during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, to protect the town and its people from being attacked and invaded via the sea.
It’s also within easy walking distance of the town centre. Simply take a nice walk along the seafront, past the Port ( Scala Nuova ) and continue along the seafront until you reach the causeway that leads on to Pigeon Island. Enjoy your visit and don’t forget to share your photos with us!
